Two male Catholic school teachers accused of sex with young female students on field trip to Germany

What may have happened in Germany didn't stay in Germany.Two teachers from Paramus Catholic High School in New Jersey stand accused of inappropriate sexual behaviour with several young female students during a ten-day exchange program to Germany and Belgium in February.Michael Sumulikoski, 27, and Artur Sopel, 31, have been arrested by Bergen County police.
Accused: Michael Sumulikoski and Artur Sopel are accused of sex with young female students
Sopel is married and serves as Vice President of Operations at the school. Sumulikoski is a teacher and assistant varsity football coach. Both men attended the school, and are said to have been athletic 'stars of their day'. Sopel is accused of having sex with two students on the trip, while Sumulikoski is accused of improper relations with one girl on the trip. All crimes are said to have happened in Germany. A fourth girl has come forward alleging she had sex with Sopel last spring, when she was a student at Paramus Catholic.

Both men are being charged with sexual assault, child endangerment and hindering apprehension. Their arrests followed a month-long investigation.Both men pleaded not guilty.Sopel’s attorney, Ray Flood, told CBS 2: ‘I can state categorically that nothing inappropriate, of a sexual nature took place – or any other nature took place – on this class trip to Germany, and he looks forward to confronting his accusers who have made these false allegations.’Sumulikoski’s lawyer, Robert Galantucci, said: ‘My client is shocked at what has happened here and what these allegations are. I don’t believe that there is any basis for them.’A spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Newark told CBS 2 the teachers have been suspended without pay and ‘won’t be coming back.’
