Drink Driving Consequences are Severe
Here is what you can expect when convicted of drink driving:
A criminal record
A minimum 12 months driving ban or a minimum of a 3 year driving ban if you have a previous drink driving conviction in the past 10 years
The possibility of a short spell in prison (up to 6 months)
The possibility of receiving a community order (this can include: unpaid work, curfew and/or supervision and treatment orders)
The possibility of a hefty fine (up to &5000)
premiums will be higher once you get your driving licence back for a minimum period of 5 years after a drink driving related conviction
A drink driving (DR10) driving licence endorsement that will remain on your driving licence for a period of 11 years from the date of conviction
The possibility of losing your job and all the financial worries and difficulties resulting from a loss of income
Difficulty in finding a new job as a result of a criminal conviction for drinking and driving
Your lifestyle could change drastically, you will lose the independence and freedom that being allowed to legally drive can provide
You may find you have difficulty travelling to certain foreign countries and obtaining a visa. The United States is notoriously strict with criminal convictions. You can find more information on travelling to the USA and obtaining a visa after a drink driving conviction .
These are just some of the possible outcomes a person can expect when they are convicted of a drink driving offence. The penalties are severe!
Is it really worth the risk?
Well the simple answer is NO - NEVER!!
If you drink and drive, not only are you jeopardising yourself, you are putting other road users at risk.
England & Wales Drink Driving Limit
maximum BAC (blood alcohol content) limit in England & Wales is:
35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath
80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood
107 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine
Scotland Drink Driving Limit
The maximum BAC (blood alcohol content) limit in Scotland
22 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath
50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood
67 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine
